ACK Stands with Catholic Bishops in Criticism of Government
The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) on Monday, November 18, affirmed its support for Catholic bishops, refuting claims of division over their critique of the government’s shortcomings.
Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit, speaking on behalf of ACK, backed the Catholic bishops’ stance on the government’s failures to deliver on its promises. He criticized the dismissive response by officials, terming it dishonest and called for transparency and accountability in governance.
“It is time the government realized that too much talk and open-ended promises will not do,” Sapit stated, referencing Proverbs 29:2 to emphasize the importance of good leadership for the people’s welfare.
The archbishop further condemned intimidation tactics aimed at silencing religious leaders, asserting that the Church would continue addressing societal issues.
“The bishops have faithfully expressed the truth. No amount of attacks will deter us from calling out evil and speaking truth to power,” he declared, urging the government to prioritize service delivery and engage with citizens honestly.
Sapit, once considered a regime ally, has increasingly challenged the government, highlighting societal struggles and urging immediate interventions, especially in critical sectors like healthcare.
