Atwoli Downplays Omtatah’s Presidential Ambitions, Backs Ruto for 2027
The Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has urged Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah to focus on alliances and financial readiness before pursuing the presidency in 2027. Speaking on Citizen TV’s JKLive, Atwoli emphasized the need for Omtatah to collaborate with Western Kenya leaders like Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula to solidify his political base.
Atwoli dismissed over-reliance on research as a political strategy, advising Omtatah to adopt practical measures, including financial preparedness. He highlighted the global importance of financial independence in political campaigns, saying, “Nobody wants to be associated with a poor person. Let me see your budget. Are you depending on well-wishers or personal savings?”
While commending Omtatah’s efforts, Atwoli predicted President William Ruto’s re-election in 2027. Citing Ruto’s strategic political appointments and regional support, he remarked, “Ruto will win by 10 a.m. in 2027. Don’t underestimate him; we lost in 2022 despite massive support.”
Senator Omtatah officially launched his presidential exploratory campaign, forming a 10-member team to assess his popularity and strategize. Positioning himself as an alternative to the Kenya Kwanza administration, Omtatah remains optimistic, saying, “I am ready to dislodge Ruto. My focus will not waver.”
Atwoli also touched on Kalonzo Musyoka’s potential, noting he encouraged Kalonzo to step up but maintained that 2027 was already decided.
As the 2027 political scene heats up, Atwoli’s advice underscores the realities of Kenyan politics, where alliances and resources play pivotal roles.
