Dear Gen Z: Embrace Change, Demand Integrity, and Build a Nation You Deserve
As the youth of Kenya, the power to shape the future rests in your hands. It’s time to reflect on the events that have marked this year and learn lessons that should guide your path forward. Corruption remains a stubborn issue, perpetuated by leaders who prioritize their interests over the needs of ordinary citizens. This cycle of greed and deceit must be broken, but change requires integrity, not just empty promises.
The church, too, is not without scrutiny. While it claims neutrality, many religious leaders have accepted funds from politicians, only to retract them when public scrutiny arises. This compromises their ability to uplift communities and empower youth groups that genuinely need financial support.
Protests for change have been met with tragedy, with lives lost in the streets. These sacrifices should drive us to demand accountability and action from our leaders. Divisions along tribal lines only serve to strengthen those who exploit us while weakening the collective voice of the youth.
President Ruto’s leadership has shown political manoeuvring rather than governance that serves the people. Appointing questionable individuals to key positions and using institutions meant to serve the public as tools for personal interests only erodes trust in leadership.
It’s time we rise as a generation with a commitment to service over survival, integrity over selfishness, and unity over division. True leadership must focus on addressing the needs of every Kenyan—not just those in power. Let us pave the way for a nation built on accountability, service, and progress.
The future is in your hands—let’s shape it with purpose and responsibility.
