Gachagua to Address Nation Ahead of Impeachment Debate
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is set to hold a press conference on Monday evening, just hours before the National Assembly debates his impeachment motion. According to an invite sent to media houses by his office on Monday noon, the address will take place at 7 p.m. at his official residence in Karen.
This anticipated address comes as Gachagua faces accusations of dividing Kenyans along ethnic lines, undermining the presidency, violating his oath of office, and breaching the National Cohesion and Integration Act.
The impeachment motion, introduced by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse on October 1, also alleges that Gachagua amassed Ksh. 5.2 billion in property through corrupt means, incited the public against directives from the Nairobi County government, and engaged in gross misconduct and bullying.
The motion gained traction after receiving backing from 291 lawmakers and proceeded to public participation across all 47 counties.
Gachagua, who will stand trial on Tuesday, has assembled a legal team led by seasoned lawyer Paul Mwite to defend him before MPs. The nation awaits his remarks during tonight’s address as the impeachment process unfolds.
