Havi: Uhuru No Longer Speaks for Mt Kenya, He’s Just Another Voter
Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has dismissed the political relevance of former President Uhuru Kenyatta within the Mt Kenya region, saying he no longer holds sway over the populous voting bloc.
Speaking on Citizen TV’s Day Break program on Wednesday, Havi criticized the recent surprise meeting between President William Ruto and his predecessor at Kenyatta’s Gatundu home. The meeting, which Ruto described as focused on national unity and tribal harmony, raised eyebrows given their strained relations since Ruto’s deputy presidency under Kenyatta.
Havi argued that neither Ruto nor Kenyatta could rekindle Mt Kenya’s political goodwill, adding that any efforts to do so would yield minimal results. “Uhuru Kenyatta has only one vote and no longer represents Mt Kenya,” Havi said.
He further criticized discussions of a potential coalition government involving Ruto, Raila Odinga, and Kenyatta, calling it a regressive move. Havi likened the idea to reviving the failed Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), which he described as backward. “Anyone advocating for a BBI rebirth is no longer focused on what matters to Kenyans,” he added.
Havi urged citizens to remain vigilant against what he called a “nefarious scheme” by leaders attempting to reorganize their political alliances.
Since Raila Odinga’s defeat in the contested 2022 presidential election, the opposition leader has reconciled with Ruto, who is now campaigning for Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.
The evolving political dynamics among the country’s top leaders have left many questioning their true intentions for Kenya’s future. Stay informed and alert as these alliances unfold.
