How Trailer Coming From Nairobi Killed 9 People in Mai Mahiu
Mai Mahiu, Nakuru County – A devastating accident involving a heavy trailer and multiple vehicles has resulted in the loss of nine lives. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, June 8, as detailed by the local authorities.
According to a report by newsbrief.co.ke, the accident happened when the driver of a trailer traveling from Nairobi to Mai Mahiu lost control of the vehicle. The trailer rammed into the rear of a matatu operated by the MUNA Sacco. The impact caused a chain reaction, with the matatu hitting a parked trailer, which then collided with a Mercedes Benz.
The collision resulted in the deaths of nine individuals: five women, three men, and a minor. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and those injured were transported to Auckland Hospital. The bodies of the deceased have been moved to Umme Funeral Home, where they await identification and postmortem examinations.
Initial reports suggest that the occupants of the matatu were members of the same family en route to a family function. The wreckages from the accident have been towed to the Mai Mahiu Police Station for further investigation.

Nakuru County Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi confirmed the casualties, which included four women and one man. Eight other individuals sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the county funeral home.
The matatu involved in the Salgaa accident was part of the Eldoret Crossroads Sacco, and had been hired to transport mourners from Eldoret to Makueni.
