Nairobi: Casual Worker Arrested for Killing Employer, Hiding Body in Septic Tank Over Pay Dispute
A man has been arrested for the murder of his 78-year-old employer, Catherine Waceke Kimotho, in Nyathain, Kasarani, Nairobi. Detectives report that Victor Ambeyi, a casual laborer at Kimotho’s home for just a month, killed her following a dispute over unpaid wages. After the incident, he attempted to hide the crime by wrapping her body in blankets and disposing of it in a septic tank on the property.
Kimotho was reported missing on Saturday evening. Family members raised the alarm after being unable to reach her by phone, and a search commenced. On Sunday, police discovered her body submerged in the septic tank, wrapped in blankets and showing injuries on the back of her head, believed to be from a blunt object.
Detectives launched a manhunt for Ambeyi, who had fled and switched off his phone. With assistance from the Criminal Research and Intelligence Bureau, officers tracked him down to a cousin’s house in Kinoo, Nairobi, where both were taken into custody.
Ambeyi later admitted to attacking Kimotho, expressing regret and claiming frustration over receiving less pay than agreed. Further investigations revealed he had sold her mobile phone to a shop in Githurai 44, leading to the arrest of the shop owner for buying the item without documentation.
Kimotho’s body was transported to Kenyatta University Funeral Home, while Ambeyi faces charges related to the murder and subsequent cover-up.
