Netball Boss Kabutha Pleased with National Team Progress Ahead of African Cup
The Kenya national netball team is intensifying preparations for the upcoming African Netball Cup, which is set to take place from December 8 to 19 at the MTC Dome in Swakopmund, Namibia. The team has been training rigorously at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi, and according to Kenya Netball Federation president Immaculate Kabutha, the squad is in high spirits and ready to make a significant impact at the tournament.
“We are going there to win. Out of the 10 countries participating, we expect to beat them all,” Kabutha confidently stated, expressing her optimism for the team’s performance. The Kenyan team, currently ranked 26th globally, faces tough competition, but their focus is on securing a spot in the World Championship scheduled for later in 2025. To achieve this, they must perform well at the African Cup, winning all their matches to qualify.
The preparation for the African Netball Cup is buoyed by recent developments. Kabutha revealed that two players were scouted during the Singapore tournament two months ago and will be joining Singapore’s national league in February 2025, showcasing the growing talent within the Kenyan team.
In addition to the team’s physical and tactical preparations, the Kenya Netball Federation has secured a valuable donation for the country. The World Netball Federation will provide a wooden sports floor that will enhance the training facilities, benefiting not just netball, but also basketball and tennis. The floor is expected to arrive soon, with the contractor heading to South Africa to facilitate its delivery.
With strong preparation and infrastructural support, the Kenyan netball team is determined to make a mark at the African Netball Cup and build momentum for future international competitions.
