Nyamira: KCSE Candidate Collapses After Alleged Beating by Education Ministry Official
A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate at Sironga Girls High School in Nyamira County collapsed on Tuesday following an alleged physical confrontation with an Education Ministry official.
The incident occurred around 9 a.m. while the student was taking her exam. According to police reports, Betarice Kendi, a quality assurance officer, entered the exam room and reportedly suspected the student of chewing “unauthorised material.” Following the encounter, the student appeared visibly disturbed and became increasingly restless.
As the exam concluded around 10 a.m., the candidate collapsed and was promptly taken to the school dispensary. After receiving medical attention, she was discharged in what authorities described as a “fair state.”
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has since launched a probe into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the student’s collapse and the alleged beating.
This incident has sparked concern about student safety and the conduct of education officials during national examinations.
