One Dead, Two Rescued as Motorbike Swept Away in Kericho Floods
A tragic accident in Kericho County has claimed one life, leaving two others fortunate to survive after a motorbike was swept away by flooding in Kipsitet River, Soin Ward, Sigowet Soin Constituency. The incident occurred as the rider attempted to cross a submerged bridge amidst raging waters.
Eyewitnesses report that the powerful current overwhelmed the motorbike, forcing it and its passengers downstream. The rider managed to swim to safety, while a male passenger was rescued kilometers away. Sadly, a female passenger is still missing, and authorities have launched a search operation. The motorbike was later recovered downstream.
Residents have criticized local leaders and the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA) for neglecting the dilapidated bridge, describing it as a hazard for road users. “The bridge is narrow, poorly maintained, and sunken in places,” said concerned locals, calling for urgent infrastructural improvements to prevent future tragedies.
