Ruto Rebukes Critics of Livestock Vaccination Plan
President William Ruto has dismissed politicians opposing the government’s livestock vaccination initiative, branding them as propagandists who lack solutions. Speaking at the Kimalel Goat Auction in Baringo County, Ruto stressed the importance of the plan in meeting international meat and leather export standards.
“Last year, we increased dairy exports from Ksh.4.9 billion to Ksh.7.4 billion. Vaccination is essential to reduce disease prevalence and unlock foreign markets,” Ruto stated, urging detractors to refrain from spreading misinformation.
He defended the program by comparing it to human vaccination, dismissing claims that it poses risks to animals. “Chanjo ya binadamu haidhuru, mbona ya mifugo iwe hatari?” he quipped, countering the notion that vaccines could disrupt livestock health.
Critics like Kalonzo Musyoka allege the program serves foreign interests and threatens pastoralists’ livelihoods. However, Ruto reiterated the initiative’s role in economic growth and environmental protection, urging leaders to support efforts that empower farmers and combat poverty.
