‘Terrible Moment of Shame!’ Gachagua Speaks Out After Attack at Limuru Burial
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has condemned a violent incident that forced him to flee a funeral service in Limuru, Kiambu County, on Thursday. The attack, allegedly orchestrated by goons, disrupted the event and led to indiscriminate violence against mourners. Gachagua claims that the State intentionally withdrew his security detail earlier in the week, which he believes facilitated the attack.
In a statement on X, Gachagua recounted how the attackers, armed with stones, machetes, and iron bars, targeted both him and other mourners, including women and children. Gachagua’s vehicle was damaged during the assault, and he described how they were forced to leave under a hail of rocks.
He expressed his disappointment, stating that the government appeared complicit in the incident and criticized the lack of protection for individuals who had served at high government levels. Gachagua vowed to continue supporting Kenyans despite the attack, hoping such a “terrible moment of shame” would not be repeated.
